LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell men's soccer junior
Wuilito Fernandes (Praia, Cape Verde) was one of 30 players named to the 2015 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, released today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
The Hermann Trophy is college soccer's most prestigious award, and is presented to one male and one female. Fernandes represents the first River Hawk men's soccer player to be named to the list.
"We are happy to see that Wuilito's hard work in 2014 has been recognized with a place on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List this year," said Head Coach
Christian Figueroa. "To be included on a list with such talented student-athletes is a great accomplishment. Wuilito has been a leader on this team since he first put on a UMass Lowell jersey and has earned this recognition. No one has higher expectations for Wuilito than Wuilito himself, and that is what has made him successful in his time here at UMass Lowell."
Fernandes is coming off an impressive sophomore season in which he led the squad with five goals and 12 points. He was named to the America East All-Conference First Team and earned NSCAA All-East Region First Team honors, as well as being named to the ECAC Second Team.
UMass Lowell opens its third year in Division I with a home clash against Monmouth University on August 28.
