UMass Lowell's Department of Marketing and Promotions received two gold medals, one silver and one bronze for its 2012-13 promotional efforts at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) 'Best Of' Awards Program at 22nd Annual NACMA Convention Friday.

The honors marked the 10th straight year that UMass Lowell medaled at the NACMA awards. Since 2002-03, the UMass Lowell Department of Marketing and Promotions has received 25 gold, silver and bronze medals.

Additionally, the four medals ties UMass Lowell's high for a single year. The Department has compiled 14 medals in the past four years, including four in three of the last four years.

The Department – headed by Eric Allen, Assistant Director of Athletics for External Affairs, and Scott Donnelly – received gold medals in the categories of Season Ticket Sales Campaign as well as Video Board Segment; a silver medal in Single Day Attendance Promotion; and a bronze medal in Promotional Schedule Poster.

"Once again Scott and I are thrilled to accept these honors from NACMA on behalf of our whole team," said Allen, capping his fifth year as Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs. "This is the culmination of many hours of hard work and creativity. We certainly take a lot of pride in our promotional efforts, and we strive to improve every year."

UMass Lowell's gold medal in the season ticket sales campaign category was the end product of its #CodeBlue promotion for season hockey tickets which began immediately after the hockey season ended in the 2012 NCAA Tournament quarterfinal. The result was 1,209 season ticket packages sold for the 2012-13 season, up from 891 in the 2011-12 season.

UMass Lowell's gold medal in the category of Videoboard Segment took place before its Hockey East Tournament Quarterfinal series in 2012 against Providence College.

The video opens with shots of Lowell with images of players and fans to the tune of I'm Coming Home, describing the hardships of the past. Midway through, the video's tone changes to action-packed highlights and color footage.

UMass Lowell's single day promotion, in which it received a silver medal, was the result of the Pink at the Rink Night at the Jan. 26 hockey clash against Northeastern. As part of Hockey East's Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer effort, the Tsongas Center ice was dyed pink while the first 300 students entering the game received pink t-shirts as part of Greek Life's pre-game 'Rally for the Cause.'

Additionally, the student organization, MALES (Men Achieving Leaderships, Excellence and Service), sold pink bracelets and raffled off an autographed stick which generated more than $1,000 for Mel's Foundation/Skating Strides. The ceremonial first puck was dropped by a local breast cancer survivor.

The promotions drew a record attendance of 7,013. Even better, UMass Lowell overcame a 4-1 deficit with three goals in the third period and the game-winner in overtime en route to a 5-4 triumph.

The bronze medal was the result of the Mission: All In volleyball schedule poster which featured senior setter Kristina Wiltjer, designed by former women's basketball player Liron Asher. The feedback of the posters, done for each sport, was immediate and overwhelmingly positive as coaches, student-athletes and fans admired the glamour shot as opposed to a standard action photo.

Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon institution size and conference affiliations to promote fairness.

More than 1,000 entries were received for the 2012-13 year.
