OLD WESTBURY, NY – Junior OH Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO) amassed 20 kills, seven digs and four blocks but it wasn’t enough as UMass Lowell suffered a 3-2 loss at New York Institute of Technology Friday in a non-conference volleyball clash in Old Westbury, NY. Game scores were 25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 15-17. The River Hawks led 12-7 in the fifth set, but were outscored 10-3 the rest of the way behind two kills by senior MB Dena McKinney and a pair of services aces to end the match. With the loss, the River Hawks slipped to 7-9 entering Saturday’s twin bill in Oakdale, NY, against Adelphi (2:00) and Dowling (4:00). NYIT improved to 7-14. Sophomore OH Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) added 16 kills while sophomore MH Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) chipped in 13 kills. Junior S Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, MA) dished out 46 assists and also added nine digs and three blocks. Junior OH Shelby Klein (Orange, CA) led the Bears with 19 kills and nine digs while sophomore RSH Nina Cicero added 16 kills and 11 blocks. McKinney chipped in 13 kills and five blocks and senior S Eylul Tuvan 34 assists and seven digs.
