Junior MH Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) compiled 16 kills and six blocks as UMass Lowell defeated New York Institute of Technology, 3-1, Friday night in a non-conference volleyball clash at the Costello Athletic Center. The victory was the third straight and fifth in six matches for UMass Lowell as it improved to 16-8 overall. The River Hawks enjoy a week hiatus before visiting Adelphi next Friday (7:00) and Pace Saturday (1:00). NYIT slipped to 8-16 and meets Southern New Hampshire and Stonehill Saturday in South Easton, MA. Coscia hit a sterling .625 with 16 kills and only one error in 24 attacks as UMass Lowell hit a combined .360 (61 kills and 16 errors on 125 attempts) opposed to NYIT’s .262 (55-18-141). Junior OH Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) added 14 kills and nine digs while hitting .367. Senior OH Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO) chipped in 11 kills, eight digs and four blocks while junior OH Vicky Wong (Tewksbury, MA) had 10 kills and 10 digs while hitting .350. Senior S Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, MA) dished out 40 assists in addition to six digs, two kills and two blocks. Sophomore S Larissa Niu (Oceanside, CA) added 10 assists and four kills, including the match point. Sophomore OH Tugce Sirdas (Istanbul, Turkey) led the Bears with 15 kills and 10 digs while junior RSH Nina Cicero (Smithtown, NY) added 13 kills and senior OH Shelby Klein (Orange, CA) 12 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore S Emily Syers (East Meadow, NY) compiled 46 assists. |
