Sophomore Ashley Zielinski: Dual winner at MIT

Ashley Zielinski, a sophomore from Manchester, NH, was named the Northeast-10 Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week Tuesday after leading UMass Lowell at the MIT Coed Invitational Saturday.

Zielinski captured both the 55 meter hurdles and the 200 meter dash and was one of six UMass Lowell female athletes who won individual titles on the day.

Zielinski won the 55 meter hurdles in 8.70 seconds and went on to win the 200 meter dash in 26.67 seconds.

Three River Hawks were named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll, led by senior Jacqui Barrett (Woburn, MA), who captured her third shot put title of the year at MIT with a throw of 45 feet, 7.25 inches.

Senior William Nguidjoi (Lawrence, MA) earned Honor Roll mention as he won his second triple jump title in as many weeks (43’ 11.25’) and placed second in the long jump (21’ 5.5’’).

Junior Angus MacDonald (Methuen, MA) was also cited as he placed second overall and topped collegiate runners in the 1,000 meters in 2:31.63. He also ran a 1:57.8 split on UMass Lowell’s 4X800 meter relay team, which placed first in 7:59.63.

UMass Lowell enters the Boston University Terrier Invitational Friday (women) and Saturday (men) at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
