Freshman Kelly Walton (Nahant, MA) placed second overall to lead the UMass Lowell women’s cross country team to the Williams College Purple Valley Classic Mixed 5K Run Saturday afternoon at Mount Greylock H.S. UMass Lowell scored 25 points (2, 3, 5, 6, 9 – 12, 15) and defeated the host Ephs (30) and Springfield College (84). Led by Walton, who ran the 5K course in 20 minutes, 15 seconds, five UMass Lowell freshman finished in the top nine places and were separated by just 36 seconds. Freshman Gina Butler (Dracut, MA) placed third in 20:16 while freshman Mary Hazen (Framingham, MA) took fifth in 20:39 and freshman Nicole Skotz (Tewksbury, MA) sixth in 20:41. Freshman Colleen Kennedy (Wilmington, MA) rounded out the scoring in ninth (20:46) while sophomore Jennifer Carr (Tewksbury, MA) placed 12th (21:06) and sophomore Emily Lukin (Attleboro, MA) 16th (22:14). In the 6K race, junior Sarah Bonomo (Tewksbury, MA) placed 36th in 24:02 while junior Ivory Farren (Tyngsboro, MA) placed 58th in 24:46 and sophomore MaryAnn Ford (Woburn, MA) 84th in 25:39. |
