Senior Haley Catarius (Marshfield, MA) placed 22nd individually to lead the UMass Lowell women’s cross country team to eighth place at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The River Hawks compiled 212 points (22, 36, 41, 47, 66 – 76, 97) as MIT won the team title with 60 points, ahead of Brandeis (75) and Keene State (115).

Catarius ran the 5K course in 19 minutes, 2.0 seconds while junior Sarah Bonomo (Tewksbury, MA) placed 36th in 19:17 and freshman Kelly Walton (Nahant, MA) 41st in 19:20.

Freshmen Gina Butler (Dracut, MA) and sophomore Jen Nicoloro (Waltham, MA) rounded out UMass Lowell’s top five, Butler 47th in 19:25 and Nicoloro 66th in 19:53.

Freshman Mary Hazen (Framingham, MA) took 77th in 20:05 and freshman MaryAnn Ford (Arlington, MA) 98th in 20:26.

Jacqui Wentz of MIT won the individual title in 17:40. The field included 301 runners representing 42 colleges and universities.

In the women’s sub-varsity race, three River Hawks placed in the top 20, led by freshman Katelynn Allen (Marshfield, MA), who took seventh in 19:42. Sophomore Ivory Farren (Chemsford, MA) placed 14th in 20:15 and sophomore Jennifer Carr (Tewksbury, MA) 20th in 20:30.

UMass Lowell enters the Plansky Invitational at Williams College next Saturday.
