April 12, 2009 Sophomore Lauren Raimondi (East Longmeadow, MA) and junior Prisna Doriscat (Boston, MA) each won two events to lead the UMass Lowell women's track and field team at the sixth running of the George Davis Invitational Saturday at the Cushing Field Complex. The non-scoring meet drew schools and athletes from both Division II and III as well as several athletes representing postgraduate track and field clubs from the region. Raimondi won both the 100 meter hurdles and the high jump while Doriscat captured the 100 meter dash and led UMass Lowell's 4X100 meter relay team to first place. The two were among six River Hawks who captured individual titles on the day. Raimondi won the 100 meter hurdles in 15.11 seconds and was one of two River Hawks in the top three places. Sophomore Eunice Delice (Methuen, MA) placed third in 16.43 seconds. Raimondi also cleared 5 feet, 3.25 inches to win the high jump, edging junior Suzanne Bernier of Brandeis by 0.25 inches. Doriscat won the 100 meter dash in 12.76 seconds and was one of five UMass Lowell sprinters in the top six places. Freshman Nicole Giaquinto (Winthrop, MA) placed third in 12.95 seconds while senior Katrina Lutkus (Lowell, MA) placed fourth in 13.10 seconds. Freshman Cachet Chesson (Randolph, MA) placed fifth in 13.21 seconds while junior Sharikka Finely-Moise (Lexington, MA) was right behind in sixth in 13.34 seconds. Doriscat also teamed with Finley-Moise, Lutkus and Chesson to win the 4X100 meter relay in 49.93 seconds. Giaquinto highlighted her afternoon by winning the 200 meter dash in 26.13 seconds as UMass Lowell owned the top five spots. Freshman Amy Delgado (Bridgewater, MA) placed second in 26.96 seconds while Doriscat was right behind in 26.97. Delice (27.46) and Finley-Moise (27.76) completed UMass Lowell's effort in fourth and fifth. Freshman Dana Jamieson (Sudbury, MA) also helped UMass Lowell claim the sprints as she won the 400 meter dash in 61.32 seconds. Junior Jacqui Barrett (Woburn, MA) won her second shot put title in as many weeks as she threw for a distance of 45' 2.5'' and built nearly a seven-foot cushion on the remainder of the field. Barrett led two teammates in the top three places sophomore Bethany Staiti (Barre, MA) placed second with a toss of 38' 9.75'' and sophomore Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) third with a throw of 35' 8.5''. In the 1,500 meters, senior Christina DaLomba (Marstons Mills, MA) placed second and led two teammates in the top five places. DaLomba ran the course in 4:45.47 while senior Sarah Brassard (Oxford, MA) placed fourth in 4:56.10 and sophomore Patricia Brice (Chelmsford, MA) fifth in 4:56.57. In other events, junior Heather McCarthy (Burlington, MA) placed third in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:12.75; senior Emily Thomas (Foxboro, MA) took fourth in the 3,000 meters (10:40.00); freshman Michelle Bashaw (Salisbury, MA) placed fifth in the javelin (109' 1.0''); and Chesson sixth in the long jump (16' even). UMass Lowell enters the Larry Ellis Invitational next Saturday at Princeton. |
