UMass Lowell Softball: Complete 2010 Schedule
Winter might be just around the corner, but the UMass Lowell softball team is already looking forward to the promise of spring, as head coach Sean Cotter announced the squad’s spring 2010 schedule on Monday.
The River Hawks will look to build on their experience and learn from new coach Cotter during the 2010 campaign, which kicks off on March 13 with a double-header at Florida Southern. The team will also take on Saint Leo while they are down south, with a double-header against the Lions on March 20.
Also during their stay in the Sunshine State, the River Hawks will play another 10 games at the National Training Center in Claremont, FL. The opponents, dates and times of those contests are to be announced and will be posted on www.goriverhawks.com as soon as the information becomes available.
Back up north, the River Hawks will head on a 10-game road trip beginning March 27 with a trip to Old Westbury, NY where they will take on NYIT for a pair of games before hitting C.W. Post while they are in the Empire State.
UMass Lowell will open its conference schedule during that span on the road with two games at Stonehill on March 30. They will finally return home for River View Field’s 2010 home-opener on April 7 against Southern New Hampshire before heading back on the road to take on New Haven, Southern Connecticut and Saint Michael’s.
They will then play at home for a solid week, including a single tilt against non-conference competitors Tufts University on April 19.
One of the season’s toughest series will be against Northeast-10 foe LeMoyne on April 25. The Dolphins finished last season ranked No. 7 in the final NFCA Poll of the 2009 season. They went 45-13 last season, earning a trip to the NCAA Division II Championships before falling to Winona State and eventual National Champion Lock Haven.
The River Hawks will close out the regular season with a week-long homestand against Franklin Pierce, Pace and Adelphi, looking to solidify their place in the NE-10.
UMass Lowell is coming off a 10-31-1 record during 2009, but welcomed new head coach Cotter and will look to bounce back during the 2010 campaign. The squad also only graduated one student-athlete last season and will look for their increased experience from last year to translate into a successful season.
