The UMass Lowell River Hawks (5-3) outscored the Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles (0-6) 10-2 over a two-game stretch on Tuesday afternoon in Cocoa Beach, FL, while sophomore P Elyssa Boris (Gardner, MA) threw a no-hitter in the early game, a 7-0 victory at the 2010 Cocoa Expo Games.

The River Hawks, who did not capture a victory during their spring break trip last season, are already halfway to their win total from the 2009 campaign (10-31-1).

In the first tilt of the day, Boris walked just one batter and struck out nine in her no-hitter. Minnesota-Crookston’s Erin Fowle pitched a complete game for the Golden Eagles, allowing seven runs on 12 hits.

Offensively, the River Hawks were led by sophomore C Lindsi Panarelli (Shrewsbury, MA) with a team-best two RBI and sophomore RF Caelyn Ford (Dracut, MA), who went 3-3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Senior LF Katelyn Hebert (Lowell, MA) went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI in the game.

In the second contest of the day, the River Hawks came out to an early 2-0 lead through the first two stanzas before the Golden Eagles tied it at two apiece in the top of the sixth. The River Hawks came back in the bottom of the inning with an Alyssa Bryan (Stoneham, MA) single that scored Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, MA).

Bryan, a freshman, also homered in the second to give UMass Lowell the 2-0 lead earlier in the game. Ford tallied another RBI in the second game, going 1-3 at the plate in the 3-2 UMass Lowell victory.

Bryan pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs on seven hits. She walked three Golden Eagle batters and struck out six. Stacey Marcum pitched the entire game for Minnesota-Crookston, allowing three runs on six hits and tallying a pair of strikeouts in the game.

UMass Lowell will return to action on Thursday, March 18, playing two games against Bethel University (5:30 p.m.) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (7:30 p.m.) at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL.
