For the second day in a row, the UMass Lowell River Hawks (2-2) picked up an early loss and redeemed themselves with a late-game victory during their stay in Florida. The River Hawks first fell to Indiana Tech 4-2 at 1:30 before coming back to earn a 12-6 victory over Molloy at 3:30. Both games were played at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL.

Freshman CF Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, MA) went 4-9 on the day and racked up four RBI in the second game, while senior Katelyn Hebert (Lowell, MA) went 3-5 on the day with a pair of RBI in the late game, as well.

In the first tilt, the Indiana Tech Warriors cracked open the game with three runs in the top of the first, while the River Hawks were unable to pull out of the early deficit.  They scored once in the fifth and began to rally in the bottom of the seventh but came up with just one run. UMass Lowell notched nine hits in the game, letting up eight to the Warriors.

Freshman Alyssa Bryan (Stoneham, MA) pitched a complete game, letting up eight hits and four runs, striking out three Warriors on the day. The rookie's record evens to 1-1 on the year. Indiana Tech's Jessica Williams was on the mound for 6.1 innings, striking out eight and allowing just two runs, while Sam Berrios picked up the save.

In the second game of the afternoon, UMass Lowell earned a decisive 12-6 victory over Molloy, handing the Lions their first blemish on the young 5-1 season.

The River Hawks were up 5-2 through the third before they broke the game wide open with a five-run fourth. MacKenzie had a base-clearing triple to lead the way in the inning, while she also crossed the plate three times in the game.

The River Hawks scored at least one run in every inning but the sixth and converted 12 hits to 12 runs in the game. Their offensive outpouring was complemented by just two errors in the field. 

Sophomore Marissa Fiorentino (Tewksbury, MA) earned the win, pitching three innings and allowing four runs on six hits. She tallied four strikeouts on the afternoon. Classmate Elyssa Boris (Gardner, MA) pitched four innings and let up just two runs on a pair of hits, striking out two Lions, as well. Molloy's Megan Butterworth earned the loss after allowing 10 runs on nine hits in four innings on the mound.

The River Hawks return to action tomorrow with a pair of games against Philadelphia University at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. The doubleheader will again take place at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL.
