Entering her second year at UMass Lowell, Danielle Mason joined the River Hawk staff in 2009, following one season at Wellesley College and a stellar career at Stonehill College from 2004-08.
A pitcher, Mason graduated among Stonehill's all-timer leaders in victories (25) and was twice named to the NE-10 All-Academic Softball Team. The Skyhawks steadily improved during Mason's tenure and earned its first NE-10 Tournament birth her senior year, in which the Skyhawks posted a 23-20 record (15-14 NE-10/seventh).
Mason posted a record of 9-8 - ranking among NE-10 leaders in wins (11th) - and maintained a 3.71 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 102 innings.
Mason also enjoyed a stellar year as a sophomore, posting a 13-6 clip - the second highest single season win total in school history - with a 3.26 ERA as the Skyhawks went 21-18-1 overall and 14-13-1 in the NE-10 (tied for seventh).
She maintained a 3.86 grade point average and graduated magna cum laude while enduring a dual major in English and fine arts. She also served as the chair of Stonehill's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well as the student speaker at the 2008 commencement.
"In the short period of time I have worked with Danielle, she has shown us some very special qualities, not only as a coach, but more importantly as a person," said head coach Sean Cotter. "Danielle will be in charge of coaching first, assisting in the training of our catchers as well as our pitchers, and she will work with me to oversee recruiting and camps and clinics."
Last year, Mason served as the pitching coach at Wellesley College, helping The Blue to a 21-14-1 clip, a second-place showing (12-3-1) in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and the runner-up spot in the NEWMAC Tournament.
Along the way, Mason helped mentor All-NEWMAC standout Barbarajean Grundlock, who ranked among NEWMAC leaders in wins (14), strikeouts (192) and ERA (2.20).
Prior to attending Stonehill, Mason was a four-year standout at Triton Regional H.S., where she earned Cape Ann League all-star honors from her sophomore to her senior year. She was also named to The Boston Globe all-scholastic team and helped the Vikings to their first-ever Cape Ann League title and the MIAA State Tournament semifinal.
Mason is currently pursuing her master's degree in education at UMass Lowell. She resides in her native Salisbury, MA.
