The UMass Lowell men's soccer team visits Dowling College at 3:00 while the River Hawk women meet C.W. Post at 7:30 in the American International College Women's Soccer Classic today.
The UMass Lowell men (4-12-0 in 2009) aim for their second straight victory over the Golden Lions. The two rivals opened the season last year at Cushing Field as the River Hawks overcame a 2-1 deficit behind a goal from Rudy Kocandrle in the 65th minute and won the match on a 108th-minute strike from Jeffery Danso.
Dowling (13-5-1), in a three-way tie for the 2009 East Coast Conference regular season title, was tabbed No. 2 in the East Coast Conference preseason poll.
UMass Lowell visits Dominican Tuesday at 3:30 and opens at home against Bridgeport Saturday at 1:00.
The River Hawk women (12-5-4), ranked No. 3 in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll, meet a C.W. Post squad which is ranked No. 2 in the East Coast Conference preseason poll after posting a 12-6-1 clip in 2009.
On Saturday, the River Hawks meet Bridgeport (16-2-3) which was voted No. 1 in the ECC preseason poll after winning the ECC regular season and tournament titles last fall. Last year, UMass Lowell and Bridgeport battled to a 0-0 draw in double overtime.
UMass Lowell opens its NE-10 slate Tuesday at Bentley (3:30) and opens at home Friday night against preseason NE-10 No. 1/NCAA semifinalist Saint Rose (7:00).
