COLCHESTER, VT – Senior Grace Larsen (Newburyport, MA) scored the lone goal and junior G Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, MA) earned her sixth clean sheet of the season as UMass Lowell defeated Saint Michael’s, 1-0, Tuesday in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer clash in Colchester, VT. With the victory, UMass Lowell improved to 7-4-4 overall and 6-3-4 in the NE-10 entering next Tuesday’s regular season finale at Southern New Hampshire (7:00). Saint Michael’s slipped to 6-8-2 overall and 3-7-2 in the Conference. Gillis had five saves to preserve the shutout, the 23rd of her career. Freshman G Ashleigh Adams stopped three shots for Saint Michael’s. The River Hawks outshot Saint Michael’s 10-7 overall, but the Purple Knights had a 5-4 edge on target. Larsen scored the winner when senior M Margaret Gonsalves (Fall River, MA) launched a corner kick to the far post, to which Larsen charged the net and volleyed home from inside the six-yard box.
