July 6, 2010
A native of Windham, N.H. and 2010 graduate of Boston College, Chelsey Feole enters her first year on the UMass Lowell field hockey coaching staff in the fall of 2010. The All-American shined during her time with the Eagles and previously attended Salem High School (NH) and graduated from the Brooks School in North Andover. Feole graduated from BC’s College of Arts and Sciences with a degree in Communications.
“We are thrilled to have Chelsey join our staff here at UMass Lowell,” head coach Shannon Hlebichuk said. “She is a highly accomplished player who achieved at a very high level while competing in the best field hockey conference in the country (ACC). Her experiences at BC and with US Field Hockey have prepared her to be able to make an immediate impact on the sideline for us. She will bring strong tactical knowledge, along with the ability to reinforce the fundamentals of the game which we prioritize at UMass Lowell.”
While at BC, she was a two-year captain of the Eagles and twice named All-American (First team in 2009 and Second Team in 2008). She was honored as the Northeast Region Player of the Year as a senior in 2009 and tabbed to the All-Northeast Region Team three times.
“[Chelsey] will make a fantastic collegiate coach and her ability to lead was extraordinary at BC,” BC Head Coach Ainslee Lamb said. “Her competitive mentality and desire was contagious as an athlete and I am certain she will motivate the players she works with in the same way. She is an elite athlete that loves to see others excel.”
As a senior, the forward was also named All-ACC and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team in each of her final three seasons with the Eagles. During her senior campaign, she was also named to the ECAC Division I First Team and All-ACC Tournament Team.
She left the Heights with a school record for most goals (26) and points (64) in a single season and earned the Athletic Director’s Award for Academic Achievement as a sophomore, junior and senior. She earned the BC Field Hockey Team Leadership Award as a sophomore in 2007, as well as the Players’ Award and Outstanding Senior Award in 2009.
“Chelsey’s accomplishments on and off the field show her values and priorities are right in line with those that we emphasize in the UMass Lowell field hockey program,” Hlebichuk said. “She is a welcome addition to our staff and I am certain our players will be able to learn a lot from her.”
Aside from her accomplishments at BC, Feole was also a member of the USA Field Hockey Program and played for the U21 Junior National Field Hockey Squad in 2008 and 2009. She was also a member of the New England High Performance Team in 2008 and 2009, winning the National Championship in 2008.
In high school, Feole was named the Eagle Tribune MVP in 2002 and 2005, as well as All-Star in 2003 and 2004. While at Salem, she set the state record for goals in a season (28). She was honored as a Boston Globe All-Scholastic and Independent School League MVP in 2004 and was named MVP of the New England Tournament as a senior.
“Her most memorable moments at BC were the successes of the team or seeing her teammates successes,” Lamb said. “She will cherish those moments again with the entrenched traditions of success in the UMass Lowell program. She could not ask for a better first job in coaching and the chance to work with Shannon and the UMass Lowell players.”
