COLCHESTER, VT – Jaci Moulton (Baldwinville, MA) scored two goals an added an assist as No. 3 UMass Lowell defeated No. 6 Saint Michael’s, 6-0, in Northeast-10 field hockey action Tuesday afternoon.
The River Hawks have won five straight, the last three by shutouts, and improve to 5-2 overall and 5-0 in the NE-10. The Purple Knights fall to 4-2 overall and 4-2 in the NE-10 with the loss.
Missy Seeley (East Hampstead, NH) joined Moulton in scoring two goals for the River Hawks. Katie Enaire (Amesbury, MA) and Heather Woodward (Ashburnham, MA) also scored for UML.
Moulton figured into the first three goals on the afternoon, scoring twice and assisting on a third. She opened the scoring for the River Hawks at the 8:30 mark, her third goal of the year. In the 32nd minute, Moulton picked up an assist on the first of Seeley’s two goals on the day.
Moulton scored her second of the day, fourth of the year, at the 43:04 mark of the first half. Michelle Harrington (Rockport, MA) assisted on the goal. Harrington has assists in five straight games.
Katie Enaire added to the River Hawks’ lead with her fifth of the year at 45:47 from fellow sophomore Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, MA). Enaire recorded a point in four straight games. Macy has a five-game point streak.
Seeley scored her second goal of the game at 52:06. Lizzy Ales (Arlington, MA) picked up the assist.
Woodward, a senior midfielder, capped the scoring with her second goal of the year and second in as many games at 57:19. Jill Tierney (Newburyport, MA) assisted on the tally.
Sophomore Amy Carbon (Bellingham, MA) got the start in goal for the River Hawks and earned her first shutout of the season. She made two saves.
Jordan Smalling (Essex Junction, VT) made four saves, but took the loss for the Purple Knights.
The River Hawks out-shot Saint Michael’s 13-4 for the game, including 10-4 in the second half. UML also held the advantage in penalty corners, 9-6.
The River Hawks return to the field Thursday night at Assumption (7:00 p.m.). The Purple Knights are next in action Saturday afternoon when they host Assumption.
