Feb. 25, 2010
Cory Murray, a junior from Methuen, MA (Methuen H.S.), was named the UMass Lowell/Lowell Five Savings Bank Athlete of the Week Wednesday following a milestone effort at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship last week.
White captured the NE-10 shotput title and inched higher on the NCAA Division II qualifying list with a personal-best throw of 55 feet, 2.5 inches. The result eclipsed the previous school record of 55’ 0.0’’ set in 1981 by All-American and Athletic Hall of Fame member Joe Brice.
Murray’s throw currently ranks 15th on the Division II list.
UMass Lowell returns to action Friday and Saturday at the New England Championship at Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center.
A business marketing major, Murray is the son of William Murray and Kelly Timmons of Methuen, MA.
The Lowell Five Savings Bank, with 14 locations throughout the Merrimack Valley, is a proud sponsor of UMass Lowell Athletics.
The UMass Lowell Athlete of the Week is selected by the four members of University’s Athletic Media Relations office.
