Senior Tim Guerin (Auburn, MA) and junior Angus MacDonald (Methuen, MA) placed third and fifth individually to lead the UMass Lowell men’s cross country team to second place at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Sunday morning at Saint Michael’s College. Stonehill captured the team title with 36 points (2, 7, 8, 9, 10 – 20, 34) as it placed five runners in the top 10 places, edging the River Hawks who compiled 45 points (2, 5, 11, 12, 13 – 14, 15) and placed all seven runners on the top 15 places. Southern Connecticut (99) took third while Adelphi (115) and American International College (136) rounded out the top five. Bentley (153), Saint Rose (186), New Haven (250), Le Moyne (260) and Assumption (278) finished sixth through 10th. Guerin and MacDonald were each named to the NE-10 All-Conference First Team led seven River Hawks who were named Conference all-stars. The honor marked the second straight for MacDonald, who was cited to the 2008 First Team while Guerin was named to the 2007 Third Team. The top 21 runners earned all-conference status: places 1-7 to the first team, 8-14 to the second team and 15-21 to the third team. Guerin ran the five-mile course in 25:05.2 while MacDonald was close behind in 25:13.4. Senior Steve O’Brien (Groton, MA) finished in 11th place with a time of 25:57.1 while sophomore Eric McDonald (Groveland, MA), also earning all-conference honors a second straight year, placed 12th in 26:01.7. Junior Greg Wilson (Chelmsford, MA) rounded out UMass Lowell’s scoring effort in 13th place in 26:04.7, and also copped second team honors. Junior Sean Gelinas (Northwood, NH) placed 14th in 26:05.2 and sophomore Danny Wang (Haverhill, MA) 15th in 26:10.8 to both earn spots on the NE-10 third team. Freshman Glarius Rop of American International College captured the individual title in 24:22.2 and was named the NE-10 Runner of the Year. UMass Lowell hosts the NCAA East Region Championship Sunday, Nov. 8 at Franklin Park in Boston. |
