Junior Angus MacDonald (Methuen, MA) placed fourth among scoring runners and senior Tim Guerin (Auburn, MA) placed fifth as the UMass Lowell men’s cross country team captured the Williams College Purple Valley Classic Saturday afternoon at Mount Greylock H.S. UMass Lowell scored 38 points (4, 5, 7, 9, 13 – 20, 50) and defeated the host Ephs (53), New York University (75), Middlebury (83) and Boston College (105). The field included 152 runners representing 12 colleges. MacDonald, who placed fifth overall, posted a time of 25 minutes, 54 seconds for the 8K course as UMass Lowell’s top five runners were separated by only 25 seconds. Guerin ran the course in 26:01 and placed sixth overall while junior Greg Wilson (Chelmsford, MA) placed eighth (seventh) in 26:06. Senior Steve O’Brien (Groton, MA) came in ninth (10th) in 26:09 while sophomore Jeff Veiga (Lowell, MA) capped the scoring in 13th (14th) with a time of 26:19. Senior Ben Saviet (Sutton, MA) placed 21st overall in 26:39 while freshman Brendan Devlin (Weston, MA) placed 61st in 28:12. UMass Lowell enters the Keene State Invitational next Saturday. |
