Danny Wang: Ninth among 262 at the Shriners invitational

Sophomores Danny Wang (Haverhill, MA) and Eric McDonald (Groveland, MA) placed ninth and 14, respectively, to lead the UMass Lowell men’s cross country team to seventh place at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The River Hawks, who rested several of their top runners, compiled 181 points (9, 14, 26, 48, 84 – 93, 97) as Keene State (68) placed first and Stonehill (96) second.

Wang ran the five-mile course in 25 minutes, 10 seconds – a 5:02 per mile pace – while McDonald was close behind in 25:21 (5:05).

Junior Sean Gelinas (Northwood, NH) placed 27th in 25:32 while freshman Erik Dunn-Gaudet (Northampton, MA) placed 49th in 26:08 and freshman Brendan Devlin (Weston, MA) 86th in 26:53.

Sophomore Zach Sylvestre (Gardner, MA) took 95th in 27:01 and senior Jason O’Connell (Mansfield, MA) rounded out the UMass Lowell contingent in 99th place in 27:04.

Glarius Rop of American International won the individual title in 24:05. The field included 262 runners representing 37 colleges and universities.

UMass Lowell enters the Plansky Invitational at Williams College next Saturday.
