LOWELL - Edens Chery, a native of Brockton, MA (Brockton H.S.) and Matt Dubois, a native of Dracut, MA (Dracut, MA/IMG Academy) were selected to participate in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) Men's Player Showcase Dec. 14-16 at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC.
Chery, who starred at UMass Lowell from 2004-07, and Dubois from 2007-08, were among 90 players nationwide - including 11 from the New England Region - to earn an invitation to the event.
Ninety players were selected from a pool of 250 applicants which included players from the college ranks, USL Premier Development League and from overseas.
"These combines offer players an opportunity to showcase what they can do at the professional level, and I fully believe that Edens and Matty will develop into fantastic professionals," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Ted Priestly. "They both bring creative and effective attacking that all teams find valuable. We're looking forward to seeing where they end up."
Chery enjoyed his best year as a senior, leading UMass Lowell to a 12-4-4 record (10-2-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference) and the NCAA Tournament second round. Individually, he was named to the 2007 NSCAA All-America Second Team as well as the NSCAA All-Northeast Region and NE-10 All-Conference first teams.
For his career, Chery compiled 12 goals and 21 assists (45 points) and ranks tied for third among all-time assist leaders and tied for 10th among career scorers. During his tenure, the River Hawks posted a four-year clip of 44-16-16, which included NCAA Tournament bids in 2004 and 2007.
A transfer from Merrimack, Dubois joined the River Hawks in 2007 and immediately solidified a starting forward spot. He emerged as one of the Conference's leading scorers with 12 goals (third) and led the NE-10 in game-winners with seven.
As a senior, he maintained his scoring touch with nine goals and one assist. Despite playing just two seasons, he currently ranks 13th on UML's all-time scoring list with 21 goals and two assists (44 points).
Individual honors were plentiful for Dubois, who was a two-time NE-10 all-star, earning first team honors as a junior and second team status as a senior. He was also cited to the 2007 NSCAA All-Northeast Region Team (the 2008 team has yet to be announced).
Over Dubois' two seasons, UMass Lowell went 25-8-8.
