UMass Lowell enters tonight’s match against Post University in search of its first victory in eight matches. A win tonight would give the River Hawks needed momentum for their final Northeast-10 Conference matches of the season: Saturday at home against Saint Rose (12:00) and Wednesday at Merrimack (7:00). UMass Lowell has lost seven matches by one goal this season, but has outshot nearly each team on its schedule. Aside from a 5-0 loss at Bentley on Oct. 6, six matches in the latest skein were lost by one goal. The River Hawks suffered a 1-0 setback at Southern Connecticut Saturday night, in which the Owls struck in the 83rd minute. UMass Lowell was buoyed, however, by the play of sophomore G Matt Lavery who played the first 29 minutes and saved a penalty kick by the Owls’ Paul Templeton in the 22nd minute. Tonight’s match is the second all-time meeting between the River Hawks and Eagles, who met during the 1999 season as members of the New England Collegiate Conference. UMass Lowell prevailed, 1-0, in Waterbury, CT. The Eagles enter the game having won two straight matches and three of their last four, including a shock 2-0 triumph over No. 18 Dominican last Wednesday, knocking the Chargers from the No. 1 spot in the NCAA East Region Poll. |
