As the camp is nearing it's end, I'm still amazed with the turnouts of people showing up at Ristuccia arena to watch everything unfold. The Bruins fans are truly passionate, filling the stands for development camp and the long waits outside the rink to grab autographs from the players.
Day 4 of camp, here it goes. So as usual, we arrived at the rink just before 9 a.m. We jumped into an extended team stretch to, once again, attempt to loosen up the legs and hips. Today's ice session was divided into 3 parts. We started out with a 40 minute practice which included the standard shooting drills, and line drills, breakouts and 3 on 2's. We stretched then had a flood. We came back after a short break and jumped into a 20 minute scrimmage. It was a pretty defensive affair, with the final score ending 1 on 1. The part that made the scrimmage so tough was the fact that each team only had 2 lines, so shifts rolled through pretty quickly. Finally, we finished the on-ice work with some more power skating, another tiring session. We were put through a lot of quick stopping and starting, tight turns, some more stride breakdown going around the circles and some sprints. The guys had one last stretch and it was off to the weight room for an off-ice workout.
For Wednesday's off-ice workout, the team's strength and conditioning coach, John Whitesides, split the defense and forwards up into two workout groups. On Wednesday, the forwards had an upper body workout while the defense worked on lower body. Today, the roles were reversed, same workouts but lower body for forwards and upper for defense.
The afternoon was off for most of the guys however, a select few went into Boston to work a youth hockey school I believe. I was not one of the players in the events therefore I couldn't tell you specifically what all went on.
At 6 p.m., all of us met back up at the TD Banknorth Garden for dinner at the SportsDeck. While we ate, we watched a Bruins highlight video of this past season, as well as a historic video of the Bruins from decade to decade. All videos were shown up on the JumboTron. After dinner, we went down to the Bruins locker room and got a tour of their facilities. It was an awesome setup, from the dressing room to the players lounge, equipment room to marble washrooms.
Well that's all for today and yet again, another early night for me. One more day left of camp, it's been unbelievable.
