Freshman Travis Kellegrew (Chelmsford, MA) registered a two-day score of 157 to lead the UMass Lowell golf team to 23rd place at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Par 72 Captains Golf Course.

UMass Lowell scored a cumulative 654 – a 329 for Monday’s first round and a 317 Tuesday – to place 15th among Division II and III schools. The season-ending tournament drew 39 Division I, II and III colleges and 195 players.

The tournament, traditionally three-rounds, was reduced to two rounds due to Sunday’s inclement weather.

The University of Connecticut won the team title with a score of 298-284—582 while Central Connecticut (293-295—588) placed second. Dartmouth (291-300—591), the University of Rhode Island (299-300—599) and Bryant University (311-293—604) completed the top five.

American International College was the top Division II-III finisher with a 305-301—606.

Kellegrew fired a 79 for the first round and 78 on Tuesday to place in a tie for 53rd while senior Patrick Bean (Fitchburg, MA) carded an 80-78—158 to place tied for 64th.

Senior Brendan Livingston (Westford, MA) placed in a tie for 106th with an 85-79—164 while junior Thomas Ayala (East Taunton, MA) shot an 85-82—167 (T-124th) and senior Matt Twomey (Salem, MA) an 85-84—169 (T-139th).

Jason Thresher of Bryan earned medalist honors as he shot a 73-68—141.
