Head Coach Greg Herenda, along with Assistant Coach Marc Kuntz and Scotty Tavares-Taylor (Roxbury, MA), Robbie Walton (Boston, MA) and Matt Welch (Lowell, MA) were featured on the May 4 episode of WCTV Sports Forum with Paul Cardello and Wayne Fox. They discussed highlights of the 2009-10 campaign and Northeast-10 Tournament Championship, as well as their outlook for the future of the program.
WCTV Sports Forum airs twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 8-9:00 p.m. Viewers can tune in to Comcast channels 9, 10 and 22 and Verizon Fios customers can view the show on channels 37, 38 and 39 on Wilmington and Methuen cable systems.
"The studio and facilities were incredible and the entire crew was great to all of us," Herenda said. It was a great educational experience for our players and they represented UMass Lowell exceptionally well."
Fans were able to call in and chat with the guests after the show got underway. Telephone guests included Athletic Director Dana Skinner, Lynn Worthy from the Lowell Sun and Bill Burt from the Eagle Tribune.
Herenda just completed his second year at the helm of the River Hawk basketball program and has compiled a 41-20 record since the start of the 2008-09 season. He was named NABC East Region and Northeast-10 Coach of the Year for his efforts during his first year at UMass Lowell.
This year’s squad played to a 20-12 record, making a post-season run that resulted in the Northeast-10 Tournament Championship. The seventh-seeded River Hawks defeated conference rivals No. 2 Bentley and No. 3 Merrimack en route to a 73-58 victory over Adelphi in the title game.
