UMass Lowell baseball hurler Jack Leathersich (Beverly, MA) was named the Northeast-10 Co-Pitcher of the Week. On Saturday, Leathersich pitched a complete game shutout, 1-0, against St. Thomas Aquinas. He shares the honor with Mike Adams (Orchard Park, NY) of Franklin Pierce.
The sophomore left-hander earned his first victory of 2010 after allowing just three hits and three walks over nine innings. Leathersich piled up eight strikeouts in the win.
In just his second start of the season, Leathersich faced only 31 batters and held seven different players hitless.
The River Hawks (7-4) are in the midst of a nine game, five day road trip in Florida after sweeping a pair of double-headers against the Spartans and Molloy last weekend. In addition to facing Lynn University this afternoon, UMass Lowell will square off with Dowling tomorrow in a double-header scheduled for 11 a.m.
