Box Score

The UMass Lowell baseball squad (2-1) defeated East Stroudsburg for the second consecutive day, 11-5, before falling to Southern Connecticut St., 14-1. With the win over the Warriors on Sunday morning, the River Hawks started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2006.

In game one versus East Stroudsburg, UMass Lowell was trialing 5-1 after five innings. The momentum changed when Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, NY) ripped a two-run home run, as part of a three-run sixth inning to cut the deficit to 5-4. Wallace delivered again in the eighth with another two-run blast to take the lead 6-5.

The River Hawks toppled Warriors in the ninth, scoring five runs on six hits to secure the 11-5 victory. Highlights included a two-RBI double by Cam Kneeland (Rowley, MA) and an RBI triple by Wallace.

Wallace finished the game three-for-four at the plate with two runs, six RBI, two home runs and a sacrifice fly. Kneeland also shined with two hits, two runs and two RBI.

UMass Lowell struggled in game two versus the Owls despite a strong pitching performance from Dustin Ramey (Kingston, NH). The junior tossed six innings, allowing two runs and striking out five.

Ramey was relieved by Kneeland, who was hit for seven runs, six earned, as Southern Connecticut St. cruised to a 14-1 victory.

Bryan Deuel (Webster, NY) secured the lone River Hawk run of the contest with a triple that knocked home freshman David Smith (Amesbury, MA) in the bottom of the ninth.

UMass Lowell will hit the road again next weekend as they travel to West Chester, PA for a pair of double-headers against the Golden Rams on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. each day.
