Junior Felix Martinez (Miami, FL) stole home with two outs in the bottom of the 15th to propel UMass Lowell (1-0) to a 3-2 victory over East Stroudsburg on Saturday night.
Martinez executed a straight steal of home on pitcher Ryan Beck (Whitehall, PA), reaching the plate before Beck released the pitch.
The Warriors picked up back-to-back runs in the fifth and sixth while their pitching staff no-hit the River Hawks through seven innings. UMass Lowell snapped the no-hitter in the eighth and scored a pair of runs on an East Stroudsburg throwing error.
The game remained deadlocked thanks to a stellar pitching performance by Dallas Nunes (Easton, MA). Nunes surrendered just one run over nine innings, relieving Jack Leathersich (Beverly, MA) who allowed one run through the first five.
Sophomore right-hander Tyler Toyfair (Agawam, MA) earned the win for the River Hawks.
UMass Lowell will take the field once more tomorrow in Morehead City, NC. The River Hawks will face the Warriors again at 10 a.m., followed by a clash with Southern Connecticut St. at 1 p.m.
