4/2/2023 3:54:00 PM

Box Score
LOWELL, Mass. – Junior Ellie Frederick (Sunapee, N.H.) finished 2-for-3 with a home run, as the UMass Lowell softball team (12-16-1, 2-3 AE) shut out Bryant, 3-0, at River View Field on Sunday afternoon.

The victory gives the squad its first America East Conference series win of the season and their seventh shutout. Senior Cayla Tulley (Corona, Calif.) also found success at the plate for the River Hawks, going 1-for-1 with an RBI double and two walks. Senior Ryley White (Wareham, Mass.) made her return to the circle from injury, throwing a complete-game shutout, and allowing just four hits with nine strikeouts.

White got started immediately, striking out the side in the top of the first, before Frederick led off the bottom frame with a solo home run over the left field fence to give the River Hawks an early 1-0 lead.

It was a pitcher's duel for the next three innings, as neither team managed to cross the plate and there were just two total hits, both of which came from the Bryant lineup. The River Hawks got back on the board in the fifth, scoring two runs to make it a 3-0 game. Frederick hit a leadoff single, eventually scoring on a junior Morgan Fisher (Glassboro, N.J.) sacrifice fly, before Tulley's RBI double to shallow right field scored graduate student Tori Mueller (Clovis, Calif.), who singled earlier in the inning. White shut down the Bulldogs' lineup in the sixth and seventh to secure the 3-0 victory for the River Hawks.

Next up, the River Hawks will host Boston University in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 4 starting at 2 p.m.
