LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Director of Athletics Dana Skinner announced that Sean Cotter has moved on from his position as the university's head softball coach in order to pursue another college coaching opportunity.
Â
"Sean served the university well during an important phase in its evolution," said Skinner. "I believe the softball program is well-positioned to experience success in the near future, and we thank Sean for his contributions."
Cotter spent five seasons at the helm of the UMass Lowell softball program, amassing a career record of 130-122-1 (.514) with the River Hawks since arriving prior to the 2010 season. In 2014, he guided the squad through its inaugural year of NCAA Division I competition as the newest member of the America East Conference with a 13-36 overall record and a 3-14 mark in league play.
"The university's impressive progress over the past seven years, coupled with the upgrade in athletics, has enabled us to attract coaches with significant Division I experience," said Skinner. "I believe the softball position will draw the same high-level candidates."
A search for a new coach has already begun with Deputy Athletic Director Peter Casey leading the search.Â
