LOWELL, Mass. -- UMass Lowell Athletics will host 2014 Military Appreciation Day on Friday, November 7 at the Tsongas Center as the River Hawks take on Northeastern.
 
UMass Lowell has planned a series of activities at the game to celebrate and recognize New England's military heroes, veterans and their families.
 
Through a partnership with the USO of New England, the River Hawks have invited members of all five branches of the military from all over New England to attend the game. Fans have donated tickets over the past two months to help send military members and their families to the game in recognition of their service. Prior to the game, there will be a ceremonial puck drop by Master Sergeant Cynthia Cassille of the 212^th Massachusetts Air National Guard. Cassille, a UMass Lowell graduate, returned home from Afghanistan on October 22. Throughout the night, UMass Lowell will recognize veterans and current members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard. In addition, the second intermission will feature a performance of God Bless America, a tradition on Military Appreciation Night each year.
