LOWELL, Mass. – Former UMass Lowell left-handed pitcher Jack Leathersich was added to the New York Mets 40-man roster on Thursday and will be signed to a major-league contract.
Leathersich, 24, pitched for the River Hawks from 2009-11 accumulating 16 wins with a combined 2.50 ERA. Pitching entirely out of the bullpen in 2014, the southpaw made a combined 48 appearances between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Las Vegas compiling a 3-3 record with a 3.31 ERA.
With his call up to the 40-man roster, Leathersich will be signed to major-league contract and can be called up to the New York Mets 25-man roster at any time. In addition, Leathersich is unable to be selected by another team in December's Rule 5 Draft.
