Abby Jamieson Named to All-American Third Team, Adds to List of Season Accomplishments

Jamieson led the River Hawks with a .448 batting average

Abby Jamieson, a sophomore from Billerica, Mass., was named to the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II NCAA All-America Third Team, the NFCA announced Wednesday night.

Jamieson was selected to the team as the designated player after batting .448 for the River Hawks this season.

The honor is the latest of a slew this season for Jamieson, who was previously named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team, the Daktronics All-East Region First Team and the NFCA All-East Region Team.

"Abby did what DP's are supposed to do. She flat out hit," said UMass Lowell head coach Sean Cotter. "She did that at a tremendously high level from our third weekend on."

Along with her team-leading average, Jamieson had six home runs and 39 RBI. Additionally, she tallied a .705 slugging percentage and eight doubles. She highlighted the season with the go-ahead homerun in a 1-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire on April 26.

"What is great about Abby is that she was not a regular for the first two weekends of the season, and when she got her chance she made the most of it," added Cotter. "We were 1-6 without her in the lineup, and 25-15 with her. I know Abby is grateful for Bri Martin, Krista MacKenzie, Aly Greene, and Ari Darcy for getting on in front of her.”

The designated player led the River Hawks to the second round of the NE-10 Tournament where UMass Lowell fell to Southern Connecticut 12-3.

Jamieson joins Kim Furlong (1985), Sarah Gagnon (1999) and Kristine Botto (1999, 2000) as UMass Lowell's softball All-Americans.

Just a sophomore, Jamieson is already tied for 18th on UMass Lowell's all-time homeruns list with six.

She is the daughter of Adam and Susan Jamieson of Billerica, Mass.
