Legendary college basketball coach Jim Calhoun made a trip to the Costello Athletic Center this afternoon to sit in on a men's basketball practice. Calhoun watched the practice from the bench and later spoke to the team in the locker room.
“If you don't take ownership of this season, than it's gone,” said Calhoun. “Here's the biggest thing I learned after forty-something years of coaching… You can't get it back.”
"He shared some quality time with us that will prove to be invaluable to our student athletes today and in their future as well," said UMass Lowell head coach Greg Herenda. "Our practice had an extra level of energy today and to be honest with you, I think Coach Calhoun was pretty excited himself."
UMass Lowell has lost two games in a row, and its overall record now stands at 10-5 overall and 6-5 in the Northeast-10. The River Hawks will travel to Syracuse, N.Y. tonight to prepare for tomorrow night's game against Le Moyne.
