Senior Nicole Giaquinto (Winthrop, Mass.) captured the 200 and 400 meters to lead the UMass Lowell women's track and field team at the Boston University Multi-Team Invitational Thursday night at the BU Track and Tennis Center.

The River Hawks were one of five teams to participate in the non-scoring meet along with Boston College, Sacred Heart, Tufts University and the host Terriers.

Giaquinto captured the 400 meters in 57.04 seconds and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship for the third time this season. Already provisionally qualified in the 200 meter and the 4X400 meter relay from earlier meets, she currently sits 12th on the Division II list in the 400.

Giaquinto led four River Hawks in the top four places as senior Shannon Cunningham (Foxboro, Mass.) placed second in 57.07 seconds, currently 13th on the Division II list. Sophomore Taelour Murphy (Salisbury, Mass.) took third in 57.35, 17th in the country; while junior Elisabeth Monty (Charlton, Mass.) was fourth in 57.39, good for 18th on the Division II list.

Giaquinto also won the title in the 200 meter dash in 25.06 seconds while Murphy was second in 25.10, pitting her 18th on the Division II list. Junior Diamond Jones (Lowell, Mass.) took third in 25.45 while Monty placed fifth in 25.99.

Junior Candace Greene (Annapolis, Md.) won her fourth shot put title in five meets this season as she threw for a distance of 45 feet, 8.0 inches. Greene is currently fourth in the country after throwing 47' 7.75'' last week at the Tufts Invitational.

Several athletes earned runner-up results, led by freshman Alana Kelley (Bellingham, Mass.) in the high jump and the triple jump. In the former, Kelley cleared 5' 1.75'' and led five River Hawks in the top six places.

Junior Marissa Avery (Colrain, Mass.) and freshman Kristie Michta (Nesconset, N.Y.) shared third place, clearing 4' 11.75'', while freshman Rebecca Gonsalves-Lamontagne (Woburn, Mass.) and junior Janelle Clarkson (Seekonk, Mass.) tied for fifth with a height of 4' 9.75''.

In the triple jump, Kelley posted a distance of 34' 8.25'' while sophomore Rachel Surette (Haverhill, Mass.) placed third with a leap of 33' 3.25''.

In the long jump, Arashana Yanes (Nashua, N.H.) placed second with a leap of 17' 8.0'', behind only Nikko Brady of Boston University, who jumped 18' 6.0''. Jones and Yanes also took third and fourth in the 60 meter dash, Jones in 7.82 and Yanes in 7.92.

Freshman Hannah Daly (Ashland, Mass.) had a stellar showing in the 800 meters as she ran 2:19.71.

In the 1,000 meters, senior Kelly Walton (Nahant, Mass.) led three River Hawks among the top six places as she took third in 2:59.00, just ahead of junior Karie Judge (Tewksbury, Mass.), who placed fourth in 2:59.25. Freshman Kelsey O'Driscoll (New Providence, N.J.) placed sixth in 3:03.60.

UMass Lowell returns to Boston University Friday, Jan. 25 for the Terrier Invitational.
