Adding to their long list of postseason honors, UMass Lowell junior
James Katsiroubas (Milton, Mass.) and senior
Cam Kneeland (Rowley, Mass.) were named to the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star Game. The contest will take place at Lowell's own LeLacheur Park on June 4 at 7 p.m.
The annual showcase assembles the top talent from Division II and III to face the region's elite from Division I. The College Division Team is comprised of 12 of the region's standout Division-II players and 16 of Division-III's top seniors. The University Division Team features standout Division-I players from the region.
Thursday's announcement marks the fourth consecutive year the River Hawks will be represented in the exhibition game as former UMass Lowell standouts
Jack Leathersich competed in 2009 and
Connor Burnham suited up in 2011. Kneeland will be making his third straight appearance (2010-12).
Katrioubas enjoyed a breakout junior year, hitting .351 with 39 RBI and 38 runs scored. The Milton native drew 31 walks and was hit by 10 pitches for a Northeast-10 leading .472 on-base percentage.
Since the season's ended, Katsiroubas has been selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-East Region First Team, the NE-10 All-Conference First Team, Daktronics Division II Baseball All-East Region First Team and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-East Region First Team.
His counterpart, Kneeland, has also enjoyed a career-year with a .363 batting average, 45 RBI and 40 runs scored. He ranked fourth in the NE-10 in batting average, eighth in RBI, tied for eighth in doubles (14) and tied for 11th in hits (69).
Kneeland also has received a bevy of awards, being named to the ABCA All-East Region First Team, the NE-10 All-Conference First Team, the Daktronics Division II Baseball All-East Region First Team and the NCBWA All-East Region Second Team.
