Movember Culminates in Fight Neuroblastoma Night at the Tsongas Center TOMORROW

River Hawks’ Movember Raises $5,400 and Counting

Riley Wetmore and Doug Carr dig in at Movember Night at Moe's on Tuesday evening

Lowell, MA – The UMass Lowell ice hockey team has generated more than $5,400 in donations for the Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation as part of its Movember campaign. The month-long initiative will draw to a close this weekend, but fans can donate online through Sunday, December 2.

Members of the River Hawk hockey team have generated $5,412.67 thus far to benefit the cause. That number received a boost on Tuesday night as Moe's Southwest Grill in Chelmsford hosted Movember Night, donating 15% of the night's proceeds to the movement.

The players have continued to do their part with nineteen student athletes raising more than $100 each. The leaders down the home stretch are Ryan McGrath, Derek McCoy and William Eiserman. The trio alone has generated more than $1,500.

“It means so much to the team that people are supporting this cause,” said freshman forward Ryan McGrath.

Donations to support their efforts can be made directly through GoRiverHawks.com at the individual player pages for Movember. Each page has been updated with a “Fully Grown” photo, providing a final view of the 'stache in action.

Movember will culminate at the River Hawk home game on December 1 as the program honors the memory of Nick DeFelice. DeFelice, had been diagnosed with neuroblastoma at a young age, was drafted on to the roster last year. He tragically passed away in June.

His spirit, however, remains strong. On Saturday, nearly 300 of his friends and family will be on hand to watch a ceremonial puck drop and special check presentation with the DeFelice family and Kenna Anderson, Vice President of the CNCF. Nick's old team, the Greater Lowell Hawks, will take the ice during the first intermission for “four minutes of fame."

Tickets for Saturday's home game against New Hampshire are still on-sale. Game tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors (65+) and children (12 and under). As always, UMass Lowell students receive free admission by scanning their ID as part of the Mission: All In campaign.

Tickets can be purchased at the Tsongas Center Box Office, which is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. during the week. Fans can also purchase tickets online at TsongasCenter.com or by calling 866-722-8780.
