Doug Carr, a junior goalie from Hanover, Mass., was named the Hockey East Association Co-Defensive Player of the Week Monday after a pair of stellar performances in a split weekend at No. 5 University of Denver and No. 19 Colorado College.

Carr enjoyed his best outing on Saturday in a 3-1 victory at Colorado College, in which he stopped 27 of 28 shots. He had come on for the final 10 minutes of Friday night's 5-1 loss at the No. 5 University of Denver and turned away five shots.

“Doug has started the season with a couple of solid games," said head coach Norm Bazin. "We hope to continue to improve our defensive game around him as we head into Hockey East play."

For the season, Carr ranks tops among Hockey East goalies with a 0.89 goals against average and second in save percentage (.968) in 135 minutes.

He shared the honor with sophomore goalie Casey DeSmith, who had 24 saves in a 4-1 victory over No. 13 Boston University.

UMass Lowell returns to its Hockey East schedule Friday when it hosts No. 1 Boston College (7:05) and visits the Eagles Sunday at 4:00.

Carr is the son of Jake and Elaine Carr of Hanover, Mass.
