Scott Campbell, Maury Edwards and Barry Goers named to Honor Roll
LOWELL, Mass. (Mar. 3, 2008) – Mike Potacco (Kinnelon, N.J.) tallied a team-high four goals as UMass Lowell swept Northeastern last weekend and was named the CCM/RBK Player of the Week by Hockey East, the league announced Monday.
Scott Campbell (Navan, Ont.), Maury Edwards (Rocky Rapids, Alb.) and Barry Goers (Ivyland, Pa.) were each named to the league’s weekly Honor Roll.
Potacco had four goals, including his first career hat trick, on nine shots and was a plus-1 for the River Hawks against Northeastern. The junior forward scored three of UML’s first four goals in the 5-4 overtime victory Friday night, including netting the team’s first shorthanded goal of the season.
Potacco’s hat trick was the second of the season for the River Hawks. Mark Roebothan (St. John’s, Nfld.) scored three in a 6-2 victory over Merrimack on November 24.
The four-goal weekend gives Potacco 10 goals for the season and 21 points on the season (11 assists). He joins Roebothan, with 13 goals, Kory Falite (Billerica, Mass.), with 15, and Jonathan Maniff (Revere, Mass.), with 10, as the four River Hawks with 10-plus goals this season.
Campbell had another solid weekend for the River Hawks to be named to the league’s weekly Honor Roll. The freshman center recorded two assists in Friday’s victory and won 55.3% (21 of 38) of his face offs in the two-game sweep.
Edwards totaled two points on a goal and an assist, both on the power play, in two games against the Huskies. The freshman defenseman scored his team-leading sixth power play goal, seventh overall, on Friday night, and assisted on the game-winning goal Saturday night at Matthews Arena.
Campbell and Edwards are tied for the lead among UML freshmen with 16 points. Campbell has six goals and 10 assists, while Edwards has seven goals and nine assists. Each has played in all 32 games.
Goers recorded three points on one goal and two assists for the River Hawks over the weekend. The sophomore defenseman assisted Edwards’ power play marker Friday and recorded his fifth multi-point game of the season (1g, 1a) on Saturday.
Goers has a career-high 22 points on four goals and 18 assists in 32 games this season.
The River Hawks have won two straight and are 15-13-4 through 32 games. At 10-11-4 UML is currently sixth in the Hockey East standings with two games to remaining.
The River Hawks conclude their 2007-08 regular season at Maine Friday and Saturday night. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. both nights. Each game can be heard on WUML, 91.5 FM beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
