Maury Edwards named an All-Rookie, Kory Falite named a Second Team All-Star

Maury EdwardsKory FaliteLOWELL, Mass. (Mar. 20, 2008) – Maury Edwards (Rocky Rapids, Alb.) was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team and Kory Falite (Billerica, Mass.) was named a Second Team All-Star, Hockey East announced at its annual banquet Thursday night.

Edwards led UML freshmen in scoring with 19 points on eight goals and 11 assists in 37 games. His 19 points rank 11th in defense scoring and 11th in freshmen scoring.

The rookie defenseman and led the team with seven power play goals (4th in Hockey East) and tied for the team-lead with 14 power play points (12th in Hockey East).

Edwards had three multi-point games during his rookie season, all coming against Boston University. He had a two-goal game (11/3), a two-assist game (12/7) and a goal/assist (3/14) contest against the Terriers during the season.

Falite led the River Hawks with 32 points and 18 goals in 37 games during his sophomore season. Falite led Hockey East with 15 goals in 27 league games. He totaled 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists) over the last 19 games of the season, and did not go more than one game without a point during the season’s second half.

Falite led the team and was tied for second in Hockey East with four game-winning goals. The sophomore left wing was second on the River Hawks with 12 power play points (16th in Hockey East) on five goals and seven assists.

Falite had eight multi-point games, including a pair of two-goal games (11/10 vs. UMass and 2/15 at Boston College).

As a team the River Hawks received the Charlie Holt Sportsmanship Award as the league’s least penalized team. UML averaged just 10.1 penalty minutes per game in 27 league games and just 10.8 minutes in penalties in all games.

The River Hawks finished the 2007-08 season 16-17-4 overall and 10-13-4 in Hockey East play. The 16 wins doubled UML’s total from 2006-07. The River Hawks qualified for the Hockey East playoffs this season, finishing seventh in the standings.

The River Hawks were ranked in the USCHO.com/CSTV Division I national poll for 11 weeks during the season, reaching as high as 13th on January 7.
