NEW CASTLE, DE (May 6, 2008) – Junior Anthony Gallardo (Methuen, MA) scored a three-over-par 75 for the second round to lead the UMass Lowell golf team at the NCAA East/Northeast Super Regional Tuesday at the Back Creek Golf Course.

For the day, UML compiled a collective score of 626 to slip to sixth place in the eight-team field. Bryant University shot a 303 for the second day to overtake first place with a two-day 6-3 (300-303). Pace is currently in second place with a 605 (303-302) while Post University is currently third with a 607 (307-300).

Monday’s frontrunner St. Thomas Aquinas, which opened with a 299 for the first round, fell to fourth place after shooting a 317 for a two-day 616. Adelphi (622) improved to fifth with 308 for day two following an opening round 314.

Wilmington (638) and Bentley (640) rounded out the field.

“The top of our lineup held serve, but the bottom half did not play to snuff,” said UML Head Coach Gary Mucica. “But we have a chance to mount a credible finish and we hope to do that tomorrow. We’ve got to shoot no higher than 300 in this tournament and I know we’re capable of doing that.”

Gallardo sits in a tie for 10th place with a two-day score of 152 while junior Robbie Douglas (Downey, CA), who carded a 78 Tuesday, is 18th with a 155. Sophomore Patrick Bean (Fitchburg, MA) fired a 79 and is currently tied for 26th with a 159.

Junior Matt Bagdovitz (Cobleskill, NY) and freshman Tom Ayala (East Taunton, MA) both shot an 84 for the second round. Ayala is currently tied for 31st with a 160 while Bagdovitz is 41st with a 165.

Brian Mackey of Dominican College, who qualified for the tournament as an individual, assumed the individual lead as he carded a two-under-par 69 Tuesday after shooting a 73 Monday for a 142
