Golf: River Hawks Fourth in NCAA Tune-Up
Bagdovitz Places Fourth With Even 72

STOW, MA (Apr. 26, 2008) – Junior Matt Bagdovitz (Cobleskill, NY) carded an even 72 to lead the UMass Lowell golf team to fourth place Saturday at the MIT Jack Barry Invitational at the Stow Acre Country Club.

The River Hawks scored a 311 for the day while Johnson & Wales University-Florida placed first with a 301, edging UMass Dartmouth (302) and Brandeis (307). Babson (320) took fifth while Johnson & Wales-Rhode Island (324) placed sixth and MIT (333) seventh.

Bagdovitz fired a 37 for the front nine holes and a 35 for the back nine to place fourth and lead UML. Junior Anthony Gallardo (Methuen, MA) and sophomore Patrick Bean (Fitchburg, MA) placed in a tie for 12th with a 78 while junior Robbie Douglas (Downey, CA) placed in a tie for 27th with an 86.

Freshmen Tom Ayala (East Taunton, MA) and Andrew Albrecht (Georgetown, ONT), competing as individuals, placed tied for 23rd and 26th, respectively. Ayala shot an 82 while Albrecht was close behind with an 85.

The River Hawks open NCAA Tournament play Monday, May 5 at St. Anne’s Golf Club in Middletown, DE.
