Gallardo’s Two-Day 153 Leads UML; River Hawks Await NCAA Tournament bids
SPRINGFIELD, MA (Apr. 22, 2008) – Junior Anthony Gallardo (Methuen, MA) carded a 153 for two rounds to lead the UMass Lowell golf to team to fourth place at the American International College Yellow Jacket Invitational Monday and Tuesday at the Springfield Country Club.
UMass Lowell compiled a two-round score of 323-305—628, which was behind Post University (311-293—604), Adelphi (306-302—608) and Pace (311-312—623).
St. Thomas Aquinas placed fifth with a 631 and was followed by the host Yellow Jackets (635), Dominican (635) and Bryant (636).
Gallardo carded a 79 for the first round and followed with a 74 to place in a tie for ninth. Sophomore Brendan Livingston (Westford, MA) fired an 83-73-156 to finish in a tie for 19th while freshman Tom Ayala (East Taunton, MA) finished with a 77-83—160 to place in a tie for 30th.
Junior Robbie Douglas (Downey, CA) and freshman Andrew Albrecht (Georgetown, ONT) each placed in a tie for 40th. Douglas shot an 88-77—165 while Albrecht carded an 84-81—165.
Oliver Hudesman of Adelphi earned medalist honors with a 68-73—141, good for three-under-par.
The Invitational drew 65 players representing 12 teams.
UML awaits NCAA Tournament bids to be announced early next week.
