Golf: UMass Lowell’s Mucica Named to NCAA Northeast Region Advisory Committee
Fourth-Year Head Coach to Serve Three-Year Term

Gary MucicaLOWELL, MA (July 12, 2007) – Gary Mucica, entering his fourth year as head coach of the UMass Lowell golf team, was named to the NCAA Northeast Region Advisory Committee, announced committee chair David Brunk on Tuesday.

Mucica, who will serve a three-year term, will represent the Northeast-10 Conference on weekly conference calls to determine regional rankings and the NCAA Tournament East/Northeast Super Regional field.

“Obviously I am very excited by this appointment, particularly because, as the youngest program in the Conference, it speaks to how the league and our peers view how far our program has come,” Mucica said. “I am happy to be a part of it.”

In three seasons as head coach, Mucica has guided the River Hawks to steady improvement and helped crown three NE-10 Conference all-stars, three all-academic standouts and a two-time NCAA Tournament qualifier.

A 1971 graduate of Lowell Technological Institute, Mucica was tabbed to lead UML’s golf team in 2004 when the University restored the sport following a seven-year absence. Mucica also serves as the University’s director of Graduate Management Programs.

Mucica lives in North Andover, MA.
