River Hawks Tops Among Division II-III Athletes
PRINCETON, NJ (Apr. 20, 2008) – Junior Rex Radloff (Dedham, MA) placed seventh overall in the 5,000 meters and was one of three UMass Lowell men’s track and field athletes to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championship Saturday at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational.
The meet drew many NCAA Division I, II and III schools from all over the country as well as many athletes representing postgraduate clubs.
Radloff posted a time of 14:28.11, tops among Division II and III runners, which pits him 14th on the Division II list.
Also meeting NCAA provisional marks were senior Joey DeWitt (Ellsworth, ME) and freshman Tim Guerin (Auburn, MA). DeWitt placed 31st overall (first) in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:42.67, which currently ranks 20th in the country.
DeWitt also placed 22nd overall (first) in the unseeded 800 meters in 1:57.55.
Guerin took 19th overall (first) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:25.03, which is currently 16th on the Division II list.
Freshman Chris Forbes (Methuen, MA) impressed in the unseeded 1,500 meters, placing second overall and tops among Division II-III athletes in 3:59.85.
Junior Andrew Grange (Methuen, MA) impressed in his second 400 meter dash appearance this season, placing fifth overall (first) in 48.01 seconds.
Sophomore Robert Liekweg (Salem, NH) took 11th overall (first) in the 400 meter hurdles in 54.10, just ahead of freshman Matt Blazon (Lowell, MA), who placed 17th/second in 55.67.
Senior Rocky LeFort (Nashua, NH) and freshman Cory Murray (Methuen, MA) impressed in the shot put. LeFort took fifth (first) with a distance of 50’ 9.25’’ while Murray placed 10th with a throw of 46’ 9.0’’.
A select number of UML athletes will take part in the Penn Relays Thursday through Saturday while the others are slated to compete in the Brown Invitational Sunday.
