LOWELL, MA (Apr. 2, 2008) – Junior Anthony Gallardo (Methuen, MA) and freshman Johan Rafael (Lawrence, MA) were each named athletes of the week in their respective sports, the Northeast-10 Conference announced Wednesday.

Gallardo was named the NE-10 Men’s Golf Player of the Week following a pair of stellar rounds at the Goldey-Beacom Invitational while Rafael was named the NE-10 Men’s Track Freshman Athlete of the Week after impressing at the Trinity College Bantam Invitational in Hartford, CT.

Gallardo carded consecutive scores of 74 en route to a two-round 148 to place in a four-way tie for second place at the GBC Invitational at Hartefeld National Golf Course in Avondale, PA.

Gallardo vaulted from eighth place after the first round to second with his showing on day two.

Rafael gave a sterling effort at the Bantam Invitational, winning the 100 meter dash in 11.08 seconds. He also placed second overall in the 200 meters with a time of 22.52 seconds.

The golf team enters the Yale Spring Invitational Saturday and Sunday in New Haven, CT, while the men’s and women’s track and field teams compete at the Stonehill Invitational Saturday in Easton, MA.
