LOWELL, MA (Feb. 12, 2008) – Senior Gillian Mundry (Methuen, MA) freshman Cory Murray (Methuen, MA) were each named field athletes of the week for the second straight week, the Northeast-10 Conference announced Monday.

Mundry was named the women’s field athlete of the week while Murray took home men’s freshman field athlete of the week honors. Additionally, Patricia Brice (Chelmsford, MA) was named the women’s freshman athlete of the week.

The UML trio is fresh off a stellar effort at the Boston University St. Valentine’s Day Invitational last weekend.

Mundry placed fourth overall – tops among Division II and III athletes – in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 8.25. Last week, she was honored for winning the long jump at the Tufts Jumbo Invitational (17’ 1.25).

Murray, fresh off the shot put title at Tufts last week (51’ 7.0’’), placed ninth overall and second among Division II-III throwers in the shot put with a distance of 51’ even.

Brice was a member of both the distance medley relay and the 4X400 meter relay teams which enjoyed milestone efforts. Brice ran the 400 meter dash in 57.8 seconds on UML’s DMR team which placed fifth overall (second among II-III teams) and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in a school-record 11:54.72, the fourth-fastest time in the country.

Brice also ran a 58.0-second leg to lead UML’s 4X400 meter relay team to seventh place overall (second) in 3:54.43, which also met the NCAA provisional standard.

Joining Brice in both events was sophomore Haley Catarius (Marshfield, MA), who ran the 800 meters in the DMR in 2:13.40; and ran a 57.6-second split on UML’s 4X400 meter relay team.

Catarius was one of six River Hawks cited to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll. Joining her was sophomore Jacqui Barrett (Woburn, MA), who placed seventh overall (first) in the shot put with a distance of 42’ 7.5’’.

Also cited to the Honor Roll was each member of UML’s men’s distance medley relay team, which posted the fastest time in the country this season (9:54.15), set a school record, automatically qualified for the NCAA championship and placed second only to Army.

Freshman Sam Bastien (Canton, MA) ran the 400 meter dash in 50.6 seconds while junior Ruben Sanca (Boston, MA) ran the 1,200 meters in 2:59.70; sophomore Mike Malinowski (Peabody, MA) the 800 meters in 1:56.40; and graduate student Stephen DeWitt (Ellsworth, ME) the mile in 4:07.10.

Malinowski also placed 22nd overall (fourth) in the 1,000 meters in 2:31.62.
