LOWELL, MA (Mar. 13, 2008) – The NCAA has announced it will videostream portions of Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday from Minnesota State University-Mankato.

Nine hours of coverage will be provided each day of the championships using three cameras: two stationed outside the track as well as a mobile camera covering the field events. Coverage will be devoted primarily to the event finals during times when events overlap. 

Thirteen athletes– three relay teams and three individuals – will represent the UMass Lowell men and women, led by sophomore Doug Caves (Oxford, MA) and junior Andrew Grange (Methuen, MA), who are seeded fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 400 meter dash. The preliminary race is slated for Friday at 5:45 and the final Saturday at 4:30

Additionally, sophomore Olivia Thibou (Boston, MA) is seeded fifth in the triple jump, slated for Saturday at 4:45.

The women’s distance medley relay is scheduled for Friday at 8:01 while the men’s distance medley relay will be run at 8:21. Representing the women will be sophomore Haley Catarius (Marshfield, MA), who will run the 800 meters, and junior Christina DaLomba (Marstons Mills, MA), who will run the 1,200; along with freshman Patricia Brice (Chelmsford, MA), who will run the 400 meter dash, and freshman Lyra Clark (Nashua, NH), who will run the mile.

Making up the men’s DMR will be junior Ruben Sanca (Boston, MA) in the mile, freshman Sam Bastien (Canton, MA) in the 400 meter dash; sophomore Mike Malinowski (Peabody, MA) in the 800 meters and freshman Angus MacDonald (Methuen, MA) in the 1,200.

Catarius and Brice are also members of UML’s 4X400 meter relay team which is scheduled to run Saturday at 6:40. Joining them are junior Tristin Johnson (Pittsfield, MA) and sophomore Heather McCarthy (Burlington, MA).

The videostreaming marks the first time the NCAA has featured a Division II track championship via broadband. The NCAA facilitated broadband coverage of the Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships last year and will do so again in 2008.
