Men’s Basketball: Second Half Surge Lifts Bentley Over UMass Lowell, 81-54
Carr With 13 Points in Loss

WALTHAM, MA (Nov. 25, 2007) – Junior G Lew Finnegan (Lexington, MA) scored 20 points as Bentley College defeated UMass Lowell, 81-54, Sunday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s basketball clash at the Dana Center.

With the loss, UML slipped to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the NE-10 entering Wednesday’s home game against Stonehill (7:30). The Falcons improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Conference.

Sophomore G Kevin Carr (Lancaster, OH) led UML with 13 points, all in the first half, while sophomore G Craig Heatherly (Mishawaka, IN) added eight points.

Finnegan converted 9 of 13 field goal attempts and also dished out five assists while freshman G Tom Dowling (Rockville Centre, NY) added 17 points, hitting 5 of 9 field goals, in 16 minutes.

Sophomore G Jason Westrol (Brielle, NJ) scored 11 points and handed out six assists while freshman G Mike Quinn (Oakdale, CT) also chipped in 11 points.

UML shot .522 in the first half (12 for 23), but struggled from the floor in the second half, converting just six of 24 attempts and two over the final 15:19 of the game.

Bentley also forced 22 turnovers by UML and committed only eight, enabling a 30-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Falcons led 46-33 at the break, but UML closed the deficit to 10 (53-43) with 15:19 left to play on a 3-point shot by freshman G Max Kerman (Watertown, MA).

UML lost its touch, however, misfiring on its next 12 field goal attempts as Bentley took a 75-50 lead with 3:00 remaining.
