River Hawks Return to NE-10 Slate Wednesday at Assumption
INDIANAPOLIS (Dec. 30, 2007) – Senior G DeAndre Brock scored 20 points as the University of Indianapolis defeated UMass Lowell, 78-63, Sunday night in a non-conference men’s basketball clash at Nicoson Hall.
With the loss, UML slipped to 4-6 overall entering Wednesday’s game at Assumption (7:30). Indianapolis improved to 8-2.
Senior guards Dashon Harper (Columbus, OH) and Jamael Lynch (Brooklyn, NY) each had nine points for UML as did sophomore C Ali Kanaan (Montreal, QUE). Kanaan also grabbed nine rebounds and dished three assists.
Sophomore G Craig Heatherly (Mishawaka, IN) added eight points and five rebounds while sophomore F Victor Colon (Chicago, IL) chipped in eight points and seven rebounds. Sophomore G Kevin Carr (Lancaster, OH) also scored eight points.
Brock converted 8 of 16 field goal attempts and grabbed four rebounds while junior F Justin Barnard came off the bench to score 15 points for the Greyhounds. Junior F Braxton Mills added 12 points and six rebounds while junior F Tristan Rogers chipped in 11 points (5-10 field goal shooting) and seven rebounds.
UIndy led 38-37 with 15:07 left to play and scored eight straight points to grab a 46-37 lead with 13:08 to play, but UML cut the lead to four (46-42) when Colon scored five straight points.
The Greyhounds, however, went on a 9-0 run, fueled by a dunk and free throw by Rogers, to post a 55-42 cushion with 8:33 remaining. UML never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.
UIndy forced 13 turnovers from UML while committing only five. The Greyhounds shot .475 from the field (28-59) opposed to UML’s .411 (23-56), and outscored the River Hawks 15-10 at the free throw line and 14-10 off turnovers.
UIndy’s advantages offset UML’s 38-33 advantage on the glass and 12-6 edge on second chance points.
The Greyhounds led 30-27 at the half.
